The shape of solitude -series (2019-ongoing)

The shape of solitude is an ongoing series of small textile works that are been created slowly over the years 2019-2026 – at times through active work, and other times through hibernation. The works have been a kind of refuge and a way for me to recharge by retreating into my own solitude and peace, a kind of safe space of my own. In this safety, I have been free to express myself organically through materials and forms, without self-censorship or any deeper purpose. The works have emerged through meditative repetition and working from suggestions of materials. In essence, the works encourage reflection on personal boundaries, resilience and a safe physical and mental state from the perspective of mental health maintenance and care. The forms of the works are soft, bare and honest without presenting anything one or specific - yet there are many familiar shapes that evoke associations and free the imagination in the viewer - what do you see?

The works are made using only recycled materials. The works can also be explored through gentle touch and stroking, through which visitors are encouraged to explore whether these haptic sensory experiences contribute in any way to the overall experience of the work? What kind of physical space do these works, born in a state of security, create around them - is a sense of safety transmitted into the exhibition space?
